Verbena officinalis 'Bampton' is a beautiful cultivar of the species with tall airy stems and small narrow, toothed leaves all in a rich purply green colour with a metallic sheen. At the tips of the stems small clusters of tiny purple pink flowers appear throughout summer, which are rich in nectar and attract many pollinators. It's a distinctive and architectural plant which can grow in a single season up to a metre high and 75cm across. Great in the middle, or even at the front of an herbaceous border, as a pot filler, or in a mixed planting scheme. Likes a sheltered spot in full sun in a well drained, preferably limy soil. Hardy in most areas of the UK in an average winter.
