This is a new hybrid of the wonderful winter sweet box, which has inherited the best off both it's parents. The lanceolate leaves are a rich, glossy green, and rather larger than the species, and it is also smothered in winter with clusters of the most exquisitely fragrant small white flowers. These are followed in due course by bright red berries which age to black. Slow growing and compact in habit it reaches only about 50cm x 50cm, making it perfect for almost any situation where a formal habit and form are required. It works in pots, mixed shrubberies, and really any other type of garden situation, as long as it is grown in moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil, in a partially shaded position. One of our personal favourite winter shrubs.
