Japanese Primrose. A perennial with large green crinkled leaves which form from a basal rosette. Stout stems with tiers of large open pale pink flowers, with a darker eye surrounding a yellow centre, in late spring and early summer, rather like a candelabra, hence the common name of candelabra primrose. Grows to a maximum of 50cm x 20cm, and looks great when planted in groups, or with other colours of candelabra's. This rather lovely plant flowers in May and June, and will be good at the edge of any border, or even as part of a spring planted pot. Likes full sun to fairly shady conditions and is perfectly hardy, in most well drained but moist soils which are neutral to acid in composition. Water thoroughly before planting.
