Philodendron scandens is a very hardy houseplant, which features gorgeous evergreen heart shaped leaves on long trailing vine type stems. Ideal either as a hanging plant, or for growing up a moss pole, this plant is quite fast growing and can reach up to about 1.5metres. It can be trimmed after a leaf node to make it bushier and curtail the length, and it will do very well in areas where the light is good, but indirect, and tends to thrive in areas where fluorescent lighting is used, making it very suitable in offices, for example. Small leaves, or long gaps between leaves can indicate it needs a little more light, and yellowing of leaves is ofetn due to over watering. Water once a week in the season, and less frequently i winter. Dust the leaves occasionally, and keep the plant's humidity high by regular misting. Do not water the pot until the compost is completely dry, and keep at a minimum room temperature of around 16 degrees celsius. The plant is native to the rain forests of South America. Toxic to dogs and cats, if they are prone to chewing things.
