Magnolia Stellata Waterlily

Magnolia stellata is a deservedly popular, compact and bushy shrub, or small tree which is spectacular in spring.  Silky and mysterious buds in winter swell and open to reveal large pure white star shaped flowers in early to mid spring, which open before the mid green, ovate leaves appear.  The flowers are lightly scented and will cover the shrub for several weeks.  One of the very best magnolia's for a small garden, this shrub prefers a neutral to acid soil in moist but well drained compost, preferably in a sunny but sheltered spot, but will grow in alkaline conditions as long as kept moist.
