WHEN TO SOW
January to March
WHERE TO SOW
Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or warm place and keep at a temperature of between 20-25°C (68-77°F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination which usually takes 10-21 days.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost 23-30cm (9-12") apart or plant into baskets and containers filled with good quality potting compost.
In hanging baskets it helps to give more depth to the display to add a few upright plants in addition to the trailing varieties.
