As with all in the species the foliage is stiff and grass like, with stout stems arising from summer through to autumn bearing the spikes of tubular flowers. Loved by bees and other pollinators, kniphofia ideally like a free draining sandy soil, but will cope with most soils as long as they are free draining and in full sun.
