Vigorous clumps of fresh green, sword like, leaves and tall stems of deep velvety blue flowers with yellow markings at the throat make this an excellent choice for waterside margins, containers, or as a cut flower. Growing to a maximum height of about 90cm and spreading to perhaps 40 to 45cm, this plant looks great in groups even when not in flower, and simply spectacular when it is. Preferring a spot in full sun, the plant will cope with a shadier site, but may flower less proliferously, it will also tolerate a wide range of soils, and is even relatively drought resistant, though the perfect conditions for it are a fertile soil, which is medium to wet in terms of moisture retention. Great in drifts at the side of a stream or pond, it also looks superb in the middle of a mixed perennial bed, planted with grasses, or even in a large pot. Good as a cut flower, and highly attractive to pollinators, and remarkably rabbit resistant.
