Hosta's are one of the joys of early spring , as their new leaves thrust and twist through the earth, spiralling their way into the light. 'Sunset Grooves' is a really interesting variety which has thick leaves with a puckered texture, vibrant yellow green in the middle, with a dark green margin. The leaves are slightly broader than most hosta's and reflex slightly as they unfurl to achieve a shallow cupped look. In summer tall flower spikes erupt from the centre of the plant which have several lilac coloured lily like flowers on each. Standing on sturdy stems these also make for good cut flowers for the vase. Extremely tough and hardy, this variety likes partial shade in moist but well drained soil, and in most locations in the U.K it will also be fine in full sun. As with all hosta's protect the leaves from slugs, albeit the thicker leaved ones are thought to be less susceptible. Grows to between 10 and 50cm high and wide.
