Hardy perennial - orientale type
CAUTION: HARMFUL IF EATEN!
WHEN TO SOW
February to June or September and October
WHERE TO SOW
Under cover sow seeds onto the surface of a good free draining seed compost. Do not cover the seed as light helps germination. Place at a temperature of 15°C (60°F) until after germination which usually takes 10-21 days.
WHEN TO TRANSPLANT
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into pots and grow on until larger. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out in a cold frame 30cm (12") apart. Later sowings should be overwintered in a cold frame for planting out the following spring.
FLOWERS
May to July the following year.
HANDY TIP
the large vibrant blooms are perfect planted in a border of hot colours.
