This long lived perennial forms mounds of dark green foliage, with very distinctive needle like leaves, atop of which open colourful, almost luminescent clear blue flowers almost all summer long. The flowerheads resenble dragon's heads, hence it's common name of Dragon's Head. Very drought tolerant, this plant will perform well in any well drained site in a soil with moderate fertility. It dislikes excessive winter wet at it's roots, but is hardy in most of the UK otherwise, and is a very unusual and interesting addition to the front of any border, on a rockery, or gravel bed or in pots. Grows to about 20cm high by 40cm across.
