Chelone obliqua, aka Turtlehead, has deep lilac pink flowers in hooded clusters and strong dark green leaves and stems. Flowering in August and September it is good for brightening the late season border, and grows well in any moist soil. It's a bee magnet and a rich source of nectar, which grows 70 - 80 cm high and 40 - 50cm wide. An uncommon plant, not often grown, so makes a bit of a talking point.
