Even though almost 40 years have passed since Bergenia 'Bressingham Ruby' was first introduced it is still generally regarded as one of the best varieties around. The neat clumps of leathery rounded leaves start in spring a fresh bright green, gradually darkening to a deeper shade in summer then turning ruby coloured with purple undersides in winter. In spring spikes of small shocking magenta pink flowers make for a very colourful show. Grows upp to about 35cm high and can spread to c 50cm. Grows well in any soil but very dry or very wet, and will suit any aspect. Happy in full sun or partial shade, but the leaves always colour better when in sun.
