Granny Smith is about the most widely commercially grown apple in the UK, known for it's sharp flavour and crisp flesh which make it suitable both for eating straight off the tree or for cooking with. The apples are quite large, usually green, though sometimes faintly flushed or striped with soft brown. From pollination group 3 Granny Smith will cross pollinate with most other apples in groups 2, 3 or 4. Needs a warm and well drained site in full sun to perform at its best.
