Acer palmatum 'Bi Hoo' is a reasonably vigorous cultivar of Japanese Maple, reaching a height and spread of 2.5m x 2.5m in 10 years, but can make 5 to 6 metres in time. The variety features lovely divided fresh green leaves in spring and summer, turning bright shades of red and orange before dropping in autumn, with very handsome yellow and orange winter stems. This plant loves a moist but well drained soil, in dappled or full shade in quite a wide range of soil types, preferring soils in the slightly acid to neutral range. Excellent grown as a specimen in a border position, but best in a sheltered spot and protect from cold winds in spring as the leaves are first emerging, especially when young. Do not allow the roots to dry out, as both of these things will lead to dessication of the leaves and the loss of the plant.
