Penstemon are fabulous mid summer perennial flowers, with their graceful spires of nodding bells in various hues and colours. Laura is a particularly robust variety, with brightest pink flowers with contrasting silky white throats, dancing on strong stems above healthy green lance like leaves. This variety can grow up to 90cm high by 40 to 50cm wide and a group of 3 or 5 will make a fabulous bee friendly statement in any perennial bed when in full flower between June and October. Hardier than many other penstemon, Laura nevertheless should be given a sheltered spot in full sun with good drainage, and refrain from tidying last years stems until the danger of early spring frosts has passed, then simply cut back to the desired size and shape just above a pair of good buds.
