Matteuccia struthiopteris

A large and impressive, easy to care for fern.  Also known as the ostrich fern, and the shuttlecock fern, Matteucia struthiopteris will grow almost anywhere, in sun, part shade or deep shade, but is happiest in a moist acidic soil, where it can easily achieve 60 to 90cm in height.  The new growth in spring is particularly frothy and vivid green as it uncurls powerfully from the earth.
