A resilient evergreen shrub which has glossy dark green leaves, heavily spotted and splashed in yellow and is useful in the garden as it will thrive almost anywhere, tolerating urban pollution, salt laden air, partial or deep shade and will form a dense impenetratable barrier. Male and female forms needed to bear the red berries, which follow the small purple flowers in summer. If pruning is required it can be trimmed in winter, but if left unchecked can reach 2.5m x 2.5m.
