Hakonechloa macra is simply a stunning grass for edging borders, pots and mixing with other perennials. It's sword shaped leaves in fresh green tint red in Autumn, but can remain semi evergreen in all but the harshest of winters. A very architectural grass, it can grow to as much as 50cm x 50 cm, though more commonly 30 x 30cm. Being extremely hardy and adaptable, growing in virtually any location where the soil is moist but well drained from full shade to full sun, it's no surprise it is highly prized by garden designers.
