Santolina 'Lemon Fizz" has stand out foliage that really turns heads. A small rounded shrub, growing eventually to around 30cm high by 40cm wide, the foliage is evergreen featuring needle like foliage in striking lemon/lime green. In summer it also has small creamy yellow bobble flowers, but the outstanding feature is surely it's foliage. Reasonably hardy but may require shelter/protection in exposed sites in the coldest winters, santolina needs a well drained soil, and once established is pretty draught tolerant. Best grown in full sun. In spring trim the old flowerheads and any straggly foliage back. Santolina can be cut back to within a couple of centimetres of the previous year's growth to keep compact. Good for shrub borders, on rockeries and sensational in pots.
