Dramatic plum coloured bell flowers adorn long flower spikes on this dramatic and beautiful hardy perennial. Tolerant of most soils, as long as they are reasonably moist, penstemon are untroubled by most garden pests, therefore ideal for a warm damp spot. Growing to c 75cm tall by 60cm across they can be a very useful space filler in the middle of a summer border, where they will flower happily from June to late September, especially if deadheaded. The flowers are also loved by pollinators. As with all penstemon avoid cutting back in spring until the risk of hard frosts has passed.
