A fragrant and carpeting hardy perennial plant, Thymus serpyllum spreads quite rapidly to form a dark green mat of tiny leaves and pink/mauve flowers - a really lovely sight in June.  Use for flavouring stews, stuffings, sausages and vegetables.  Thyme tea with honey is soothing for coughs and sore throats.
