Abutilon megapotamicum 'Wisley Red'

An unusual rather tender and exotic shrub, useful for training up a sheltered South facing wall, Abutilon 'Wisley Red' features a framework of thin multi stems adorned by toothed green ovate to lance shaped leaves.  It is semi evergreen, or evergreen in mild climates, but only mildly frost hardy, so requires protection in cold winters in cooler climes.  The flowers are unusual and very striking being bell shaped in orangeey red shades and prominent red calyces.  Needs well drained soil and good sun.  Suits the tropical garden look when used as a climbing shrub.
